Description
Meat and bone meal shall conform in composition and quality with
the most recent regulations pertaining to meat and bone meal
production.
It is an important source of protein, energy, vitamins and
minerals used predominantly as an additive in stock feed
manufacture (of intensively farmed animals including poultry and
pigs) and to a lesser degree in pet food manufacture. |
More interest is being expressed from ruminant feeders as
ruminant bypass protein feasibility is being explored.
Meat and bone meal provides a valuable and cost effective source
of the essential amino acids such as lysine, methionine, and
threoninei. |
This protein meal is an excellent source of calcium
and phosphorous, which are important for bone growth and
development. It should contain 4% of phosphorous (P) and
approximately 2.5 times the amount of calcium (Ca).
The typical pepsin digestibility of meat and bone meal is 85 -
87%. |

Method of Production
The cooking method is done to preserve the nutritional value of
amino acids. The material is then dried and ground into a fine
powdery product, suitable for inclusion in animal diets.
